Santa Cruz Woman Sentenced to Three Years in Prison for Investment Fraud

Tara Denise Bonelli, 33, was sentenced to 37 months in prison for stealing $3 million from investors in a real estate scam.

Bonelli was sentenced in San Jose by U.S. District Judge Edward J. Davila Tuesday. She pleaded guilty to the charges Feb. 12.

Bonelli founded Vista Funding, Inc., which purportedly helped refinance properties facing foreclosure. She told investors their money would be used to buy homes in foreclosure for resale. She offered in some cases returns of 1000 percent. However, according to her plea, she used the money for personal expenses.

She has been ordered to pay restitution, but the amount won't be set until a hearing Aug. 5 at 3 p.m.
