Shooting Near Boardwalk Is Gang-Related

Witness reports a vehicle pulling over and a passenger shooting at a man walking down West Cliff near Beach Street.

A gang-related shooting was reported near the Boardwalk Monday night, the Santa Cruz Police Department said Tuesday.

Just after 9 p.m. Monday, a witness reported seeing a shooting in the area of West Cliff Drive and Beach Street.

The witness said the victim was spotted walking on the sidewalk toward the wharf when a driver pulled into the opposite lane of traffic to ask where the victim was from, police reported.

Police said there were four suspects in the vehicle, described as a white 2000 or later Toyota Corolla. The vehicle's occupants were described as white or Hispanic and in their early 20s. No other defining characteristics were reported.
