Suspected Thief Registered Stolen Bike at Police Station to Sell on Craigslist

Santa Cruz Police arrested a 32-year-old Aptos man for allegedly stealing a bicycle, registering it with the police department and then trying to sell it on Craigslist.

Titonidae Wilden was stopped by officers at Jack in the Box on Ocean Street riding a stolen  $1,800 Surly Moonlander, which he had registered with police. He registered it so that he would seem more credible when he listed it on Craigslist for $1,500.

The person who owned the bicycle hadn't reported it stolen for several days and hadn't registered it. If they had, police would have collared him when he came to the police station to register it.

They remind people to register their bikes at the police department on Center Street, so that they can get their bikes returned if stolen. The property room is full of stolen bikes that haven't been claimed.
