Swerving Driver Arrested on way to Boardwalk After Stop at Marijuana Dispensary

In the car with him was a 20-year-old woman and 18-month-old baby.

A man who was on his way to the Boardwalk after stopping at a marijuana dispensary was arrested on Highway 1 Monday for driving under the influence of marijuana, child endangerment and smoking in a vehicle.

Juan Carlos Aguilera, 22, of Soledad was swerving in a silver 2002 Lincoln with tinted windows, when a California Highway Patol motorcycle officer spotted him smoking a joint.

Aguilera told the CHP that he visited a dispensary in Santa Cruz before the stop and was heading to the Boardwalk.

The Soledad man was already on probation for a previous DUI, according to the CHP.

It is idiots like this that make sensational news headlines that fuel the marijuana opponents. What's more annoying is that the police press release had to state that he had just stopped at a dispensary. It only serves to malign the hard work that the dispensaries do in order to stay in compliance with an ever-changing legal and political climate. His actions have nothing to do with the presence or lack thereof a dispensary. Where he got the weed is irrelevant, his decision making and sense of personal responsibility is the real problem and issue here.
