Tip-a-Cop Lets You Get More From an SCPD Officer Than a Ticket

When is the last time a cop served you something that wasn't a warrant?

On Wednesday, the people waiting tables and serving from the bar at DeLaveaga Golf Course will be the ones who usually put you behind bars.

The Santa Cruz Police Department and California Parks officers are waiting tables at the club from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It's open to anyone.

The money you give them in tips will go to training athletes for the Special Olympics. "It's a fun event that bonds the community," according to Lt. Colleen McMahon, who organizes local police activity for the Special Olympics.

It will be a great opportunity to mingle with Santa Cruz's finest, eat well, pass up that second margarita, maybe get a Get Out of Jail Free card, and above all, help the community.
