A 25-year-old man, who was allegedly captured on video stealing a bike earlier this month from a Soquel Avenue business, then attempting to swipe a woman's handbag as he pedaled by her on the stolen bike, was arrested Wednesday, according to the Santa Cruz Police Department.

Miguel Angel Sanchez, 25, was picked up by Capitola Police officers, who identified the suspect from flyers distributed to law enforcement agencies, police said.

The woman, whose purse the suspect allegedly tried to steal as she walked on a Santa Cruz sidewalk, managed to hang on to her handbag but suffered bumps and bruises, police said.

Citizen tips from that incident and a tenacious Santa Cruz detective led to the flyers and identification of the suspect, police said.

Capitola police turned over Sanchez to Santa Cruz police and he was interviewed and booked. Police said he had in his possession items suspected of being stolen.

paul mendoza -- How could I possibly know this suspect is Latino? I certainly hope you aren't profiling him by his name!!

Pat Kittle, you are racially profiling people by their names. Just like you did with me.
