Transient Man Assaulted by Two Twenty-Somethings Thursday

Investigators believe the attack may have been retaliatory for the recent homicide.

A transient man was attacked and beaten by two suspects on Thursday evenings, and the attackers have yet to be found.

Santa Cruz Police Department officers were dispatched to a fight reported on Church Street around 9:26 p.m. Witnesses saw two white males appearing to be in their twenties hitting and kicking a man who appeared to be a transient. 

Witnesses reported that the attackers yelled "This is for..." during the attack, but could not hear the rest, according to the SCPD.

Investigators believe that the attack may be linked to the recent  

Officers tracked down the victim of the attack and say he is not linked to the recent homicide in anyway. He sustained injuries to his face, back, and legs and was transported to the local hospital for treatment.

The suspects have not been found, and were described as two white men in their twenties wearing gray sweatshirts. The suspects did not appear to be transient.
