Two Boaters Rescued After Sailboat Capsized

After their boat flipped, two people were safely brought back to shore this afternoon.

A pair of seafarers were rescued from the ocean Saturday afternoon when their sailboat capsized about a quarter mile out to sea in front of 12th Avenue. The blue and white boat was reported to have flipped at 4:07 p.m.

According to Firescan data, the boat drifted approximately 1,000 yards south before the passengers, who had been in the water and clinging to the vessel, were picked up by Harbor Patrol.

The boaters were brought ashore at 400 Beach St. in front of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Neither passenger required medical attention. The boat’s sails were dropped and it was towed in as well.
