Two juvenile suspects have been arrested in the murder of a 15-year-old boy who was stabbed and beaten to death in an apparently gang-related attack in Watsonville on Wednesday, police said Saturday.
Two male juveniles, ages 15 and 17, were arrested and charged with the murder of Felipe Reyes late Friday and early Saturday, according to police.
Police said they also served search warrants and collected "numerous items of evidence." Investigators are continuing to work to identify and arrest other suspects. Reyes was walking on Carr Street near East Lake Avenue Wednesday when five to seven males approached him, according to police.
The suspects asked him if he was affiliated with a gang, but before he could answer they stabbed him multiple times. The suspects took the victim's skateboard and hit him over the head with it before running away with the skateboard, police said.
Reyes was found at a home on the 200 block of Brockius Street, about five blocks from where the assault occurred, around 3:45 p.m. He suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper body and head trauma. Officers searched the area for the suspects but were unable to locate them after the attack.
Police said members of the public and the Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force have assisted in the investigation. Anyone with information is strongly urged to contact Watsonville police.
