Everything Safe by Noon After UCSC Evacuates Building for Suspicious Package

County bomb squad called.

UPDATE: Campus reopened at 11:30 a.m.

UCSC closed the sports and recreation building and the parking lot adjacent to it after a suspicious package was found Thursday morning at about 9:15 a.m.

The package reportedly contains a hand grenade, although it is unknown whether it is live or not.

Hager Drive was closed off leading to the parking lot off the east playing fields, according to campus spokesman Jim Burns.

The school is updating events at its home page, ucsc.edu
