UCSC Student Falls in Ravine, Later Dies

19-year-old student falls 75-feet to his death Wednesday morning.

Police at the University of California, Santa Cruz are investigating what led to the death of a student who was found in a ravine Wednesday morning.

Police, along with UC Santa Cruz fire officials, responded to a report of a man located underneath a pedestrian bridge near the university's student health center at about 8:50 a.m., UC Santa Cruz police Chief Nader Oweis said.

When crews arrived, they found a man suffering from the near 75-foot fall, Oweis said.

He was then airlifted to Valley Medical Center in Santa Clara County, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office identified the student as 19-year-old Tyler Collins.

There was no indication of foul play, he said.
