UPDATE: Police Release Names and Photos of Suspects in Saturday Drive-By Shooting

Santa Cruz Police Monday released the names and photos of three men arrested Saturday in connection with a drive-by shooting in the Seabright neighborhood.

Intense police work and a stroke of luck led to the arrests, shortly after a 15-year-old who was walking was shot in a gang shooting. As Santa Cruz police officers were heading to the scene of the shooting at 1:30 a.m., a California Highway Patrol officer spotted a car speeding on 7th Avenue and took off in pursuit.

The chase led to Clubhouse Drive in Aptos, where CHP officers set up a spike strip to pop the tires of the speeding car. Two suspects were arrested in yards in the neighborhood and two others were found later with the help of police dogs.

The suspects are Isaac Saavedra, 20, of Watsonville, who was the suspected driver of the car; Marcos Nunez, 27, of Freedom, who was arrested with help from the police dog; Julio Nunez, 25, captured in a yard. A fourth suspect isn't named because he is 15 and state law protects minors.

Police also served warrants on homes in Watsonville on the 100 block of Landes Street, 100 block of Carnation Drive and the 200 block of Clifford Street, where they found evidence linking the suspects to the crime.
