Vigils, Services Planned for Slain Santa Cruz Police Officers

Santa Cruz Police Det. Elizabeth Butler and Detective Sgt. Loran "Butch" Baker were killed in the line of duty on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

The community is coming together to mourn the loss of two Santa Cruz police officers.

There will be prayer services and vigils throughout Wednesday.

Take Back Santa Cruz, the community crime-fighting group, will host a vigil from 5-8 p.m. at the Santa Cruz Police Department. Founder Analicia Cube posted this on Facebook.

 Tonight we will give strength to the Santa Cruz Police Department."

Calvary Episcopal Church on Cedar Street in Santa Cruz has opened its doors for people to pray together.

In Scotts Valley, St. Philip's Episcopal Church (5271 Scotts Valley Dr.), is holding quiet prayer services for calm and healing today, Wednesday, February 27, at 12 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. All are welcome.
