Assemblyman Bill Monning Asks UC to Change Policies on Violence Against Peaceful Protestors

The Democrat from Carmel, who represents Santa Cruz, posted this as his Facebook status in response to violent actions against students at UC Berkeley and Davis. The pepper spraying of students sitting peaceably at Davis Saturday has shocked the world.

"I spoke with UC President's Office today and while I was not able to speak with the President, I spoke with VP, General Counsel, and Chief of Staff. They are clearly hearing from the public and the media. They convened a system-wide phone conference with Chancellors at all UC campuses today. They have convened investigations of the incidents at UC Davis and Berkeley, and agreed to send findings and directives to members of the legislature. I urged the President to issue system wide directive instructing police to refrain from violence against peaceful, non-violent demonstrators..

We are being heard."
