Let the Weddings Begin....They Will at 9 a.m. Monday

Same sex couples can have their weddings televised Monday, or have them officiated by any number of religious officials at the Santa Cruz County Courthouse (probably not Mormon).

Here are the details in a release by the County Clerk:

In light of the court’s decision Friday afternoon to lift the stay and resume same sex weddings, the Santa Cruz County Clerk’s Office is offering appointments for marriage licenses and civil marriage ceremonies for any couple on Monday, July 1st from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm..

The County Clerk’s Office, along with members of the Board of Supervisors, Out In Our Faith, and volunteer priests, ministers and rabbis will be performing wedding ceremonies in three different venues at the County building, located at 701 Ocean Street in Santa Cruz.  One of the venues will offer a live broadcast on the internet via the county’s “WedCam” on the County Clerk’s website at www.sccoclerk.com.

The rooms will be transformed into romantic areas to ensure a magical and memorable ceremony for the couples, thanks to the decorating services of Alexis Party Rental and others.

Couples must reserve a time by calling 831-454-2060 to make an appointment for a marriage license and/or ceremony. There will be staff members checking the phone messages at several times each day over the weekend to book these appointments.  Ceremonies will be held every 30 minutes.  Each couple may have no more than 15 guests.  The cost of performing the wedding ceremony is $100. A public marriage license is $90 and a confidential marriage license is $90. To obtain a marriage license, each party to the marriage must appear in person with valid photo identification, complete a form providing personal information, and take an oath.
