Measure K Oversight Committee Meets Tonight

Members of the public who wish to address grievances in marijuana law enforcement will have three minutes to do so during the committee's semi-annual meeting, which begins at 5 p.m.

Had your buzz harshed recently? Tonight, you'll have the chance to air out your grievances regarding marijuana law enforcement in the city of Santa Cruz during the Measure K Oversight Committee's semi-annual meeting, slated for 5 p.m. this evening.

Any member of the public who wishes to address the committee will have three minutes to do so. The committee encourages anyone with complaints or suggestions to attend and voice their concerns before the committee's six sitting members. One of the committee's seats remains vacant.

Depsite the invite, Scott Collins, assistant city manager, said public comments have been few and far between as of late.

The committee, which last met on January 30, will also receive and make recommendations on semi-annual staff reports, according to tonight's agenda. If revised or accepted, the committee will authorize their submittal to the Santa Cruz City Council.

Formed in 2006, the committee's charge is to oversee the implementation of the "Lowest Law Enforcement Policy" pertaining to adult marijuana offenses on private property.

Measure K effectively makes the investigations, citations, arrests, property seizures and prosecutions for these violations the lowest law enforcement priority for the city of Santa Cruz.

The Measure K Oversight Committee meets at 5 p.m. tonight in the City Council Chambers, located at 809 Center Street.
