Pam Comstock says she hates getting surprises, but loves giving them.
She got one Saturday for her 42nd birthday at the Pono Grill in Santa Cruz.

Luckily, the deer in the headlights look turned into a smile...eventually.

why is this considered news or even remotely interesting?

Not to be an ass, but Craig Comstock, at least as listed in IMDB (which I had to look him up in because I've never heard of him) is a SECOND ASSISTANT director. For those who have zero exposure to the film industry, a 2AD is like a cross between producer and an Australian herding dog. These guys and gals aren't doing what Scorsese is doing and they don't come close to directing scenes with Meryl Streep. Brad Kava, please do your homework and quit referring to Mr. Comstock as a director and call him what he is, a 2nd AD.

This kinda represents all that is wrong with our city's council. It's become a celebrity thing. Just like Take Back Santa Cruz was "real wives of Santa Cruz" drinking nice teas in posh homes telling us how much they care," this city council is one of the most self-absorbed and vain on record. And I've been a voter here since 1980. I'm guessing the writer at Patch and Comstock are friends. Because there is no value here. Nothing positive for the community at all. Just someone who wants to sit on a dais gets feted in an article about dais-sitters.
