PHOTOS: Murder Along the Railroad Tracks

These are some of the places the homeless people in Santa Cruz call home. A 51-year-old man was beaten to death here Friday.

You'd never see these campsites unless you ventured out along the railroad tracks.

They are the first thing passengers on the new Holiday Train will see as they head to Christmas Town.

The sites are in sight of the gems of Santa Cruz tourism, the Boardwalk and the Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center, but few tourists will ever get a look at them.

The people who live there do wander along Beach Street and follow a path toward downtown and the Homeless Services Center for meals.

Here are pictures of the victim, Charles Powers, in better days.
