Public Hearing Set on Heritage Tree Ordinance

An advance look at what the Santa Cruz City Council will be discussing this week.

The Santa Cruz City Council will meet at 2:30 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 in the City Council Chambers, 809 Center St. Below are highlights from this week’s agenda.

2:30 p.m. meeting

Heritage Tree Ordinance

  • A public hearing for final adoption of ordinances repealing and amending a chapter of the Santa Cruz Municipal Code and replacing it with a new chapter pertaining to the preservation of heritage trees.
  • An ordinance amending a section of the Santa Cruz Municipal Code pertaining to the requirement for permits to trim or remove on public property or public right-of-way.
  • An ordinance amending a section of the Santa Cruz Municipal Code pertaining to the property owner’s duty to maintain and repair sidewalk areas.

  • The council will hear a resolution adopting a negative declaration to the Ocean Street Area Plan and a Local Coastal Program Amendment (LCP) as recommended by the Planning Commission. It will direct the city manager to submit the LCP Amendment to the California Coastal Commission for final certification.
