State and county jobless rates declined slightly in May, according to a report released on June 15 by state employment officials.
The state's unemployment rate in May was 10.8 percent according to the California Employment Development Department, down slightly from April's 10.9 percent rate.
Santa Cruz County's unemployment rate was at 10.4 percent in May, down from 11.4 in April, and 12.4 in May 2011.
Santa Cruz is faring better than the county, with 8.7 percent unemployment.
Scotts Valley has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the county at 5 percent, while Watsonville has the highest number of unemployed individuals at 21.9 percent.
