Santa Cruz Grand Jury Decides Juvy Hall Meal-Prep Consolidation Not Warranted

The Santa Cruz County Grand Jury issued its first report for the 2013-2014 term entitled “The Juvenile Hall Meal Preparation Program,” which addresses a feasibility study initiated by the Sheriff’s Office to consolidate all jail and Juvenile Hall meal preparation in one location.

The Grand Jury concluded that the current Juvenile Hall meal preparation program, operated by the County Probation Department, adequately meets the needs of the residents. In addition, the Grand Jury noted that consolidation is not warranted at this time.

The Grand Jury examined the Sheriff’s Office findings, the Juvenile Hall mentoring components, facilities, costs, and juvenile nutritional requirements.
