Santa Cruz Police Say Farewell to Spokesman and Analyst Zach Friend

Santa Cruz Police posted a blog farewell to Zach Friend who leaves the department to become the Santa Cruz County Supervisor for District 2.

Here's the link to see the farewell to spokesman and crime analyst Zach Friend.

It praises Friend for keeping the department more transparent and for starting the predictive policing program that has garnered attention around the world.

What it doesn't say is what Deputy Chief Rick Martinez said of Friend in a speech kicking off his campaign for Supervisor. Friend was the voice in the department who kept it from using its paramilitary training on the Occupy Santa Cruz members who illegally took over an empty bank building last year.

It also doesn't talk about Friend's earlier careers as a punk rock musician and comedian, not the usual background for a police official.
