Santa Cruz Politicians and Health Workers Come out to Support 'Obamacare'

The start of the Affordable Care Act was celebrated Tuesday at the Santa Cruz County Courthouse

While one side of the aisle has shut down the government over the Affordable Care Act, in Santa Cruz it was celebrated by health officials and politicians who turned out for a press conference at the Santa Cruz County Courthouse.

"With the Affordable Care Act California will experience the biggest increase in health care coverage in two generations," said Dr. Jose Chibras, Director of External Medical Relations and Special Projects at Salud Para La Gente. "It is estimated that nearly 1.4 million Americans will newly enroll in Medi-Cal."

The push of the press conference was to get people to sign up for coverage at www.coveredca.com, a site that was down at some points in the day but was functioning later.
