The City Offers Free Flags Instead of Balloons

The program is put on by the city's waste reduction officials. What do you think?

There was an interesting new environmental concept at the opening of the La Fonda Bridge Saturday: the city was promoting "Dori" flags instead of balloons and giving them away for special events.

What do you think of the idea?

The phone gets you the waste reduction assistant for the City of Santa Cruz.

Did you know about this? I missed it until Saturday. Tell Patchlandia what you know about it.

Dori poles? Yet another consumer opportunity, more waste, more natural resources, more junk to be thrown away. Does it ever stop?

Actually, just the opposite. The Dori poles are an environmentally sensitive alternative to balloons, cray paper, and other one time use items you will typically find at your party store. They are easy to assemble and set up, City staff is carrying and efficient in orienting you as to their use, and they are very colorful and festive. I can't wait to use them again soon. They certainly set a festive tone for our community event this past weekend on the new La Fonda Bridge.

Are the dori poles and flags re-usable? Can they be rented?
