Tsunami Readiness Meeting

With the memory of the recent disaster fresh, Santa Cruz's Tsunami Readiness Group plans a community meeting to prepare for the next time.

The Santa Cruz County group charged with planning for a tsunami and making sure the coastal cities are prepared will hold a public meeting from 7-9 p.m. Monday in the Santa Cruz Police Department's community room, 155 Center St.

Two tsunami experts will speak: Steve Ward, a research geophysicist from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and Rick Wilson, who works for the California Geological Survey.

The group's director, Laurie Lang, will distribute inundation maps so people can see where their properties connect to the flood areas, and they will discuss the types of signs needed for an evacuation.
