1. New Workshops: Santa Cruz Sentinel Community Media Lab and Independent Students for A Progressive Society
The Santa Cruz Sentinel Community Media Lab is a group of local bloggers whose posts are promoted on the Sentinel’s website. They cover a wide range of topics: local food, parenting, alternative lifestyles, even local civic issues. The Community Media Lab is looking for a fresh way to present these front-line reports from the community and has started a Civinomics workshop with the intent of gathering feedback from local bloggers and viewers alike. A new student civic organization, Independent Students for a Progressive Society, is looking for input about what campaigns it should run. Recently formed by UCSC grad Mark Russo, ISPS is dedicated “to encouraging non-partisan political discussion amongst students and youth in a legitimate fashion.” Their pet topics include the causes of political apathy among students, a proposed state privacy law and Gov. Jerry Brown's plans for realignment. Visit the Independent Students for A Progressive Societyworkshop to learn more.
