The Pay Off

We've experienced many games of losses, games ending in ties, feeling a game should have been won was lost; what does it all add up to? I call it the Pay Off... The Pay Off can be a win, or it can be a game where you and your teammates played the game to full potential.

In our last game, Breakers vs Tice Valley, Walnut Creek, it felt like the 'pay off'. Another quick score during the first drive down the field, thank you Geneva Schlafly #24, plus the goal scored before the end of the first half (Paloma Hernandez-Torres #20 scored off a cross served in by Simran Singh #9), put the Breakers up 2-0 at halftime.

The score ended up 4-0 (third goal by Veronica Roth-Madrid, #13 who scored from a sweet shot out at the left wing and then the 4th goal by Mackenzie Wessell, #3, who took another long shot from deep in the midfield and went under the crossbar and to the right/ over the goalie). But the scoring seemed somewhat like a byproduct of the game the Breakers were playing. Succinct passing, organized formation, supportive runs off the ball and penetration in the final third. Oh and the defense! The defense is so good sometimes I forget to mention them, they've definitely lifted my expections while watching soccer in this age group and older! The defensive players were solid, smart and extremely athletic. They have been impervious for many years waiting for the offense to catch up (pictures this week are mostly of defense).

I am definitely of the belief that a player learns much more from a loss, but a rewarding win every once in awhile, or even a nice string of wins, is not too shabby!

Come out this weekend to cheer on our team on our home field behind Cabrillo softball diamond, Saturday and Sunday. Sat's game starts at 12pm vs ECFC Spurs. Sunday's game starts at 2pm vs Union City Premier Gladiators.

Stay tuned for an upcoming article on playing rec vs playing on a comp team and how does ODP factor in (what is ODP?!Find out in my next blog )
