Benefit for Bryan Stow a Home Run Monday

The Mexican restaurant was a sea of orange and black as community members turned out to support the paramedic's family.

Hundreds of concerned Santa Cruzans turned out for a big benefit for the family of Bryan Stow, the paramedic who was critically injured at Doger Stadium on that team's opening day game.

There were silent and not-so-silent auctions and a mass singalong of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing," which applied both to the Giants and to Stow, who is hospitalized and in a coma. Barry Bonds, not known for his charitable works, donated a signed bat. Someone else made a gorgeous replica of the Giants World Series trophy that sold for $550.

Stow's family was at the Giants-Dodgers game in San Francisco.  This benefit was organized by his roommate, Danny Simon, 41, who has known Bryan for 25 years.

"I wanted to do something so friends and family could celebrate his life," said Simon. "The community here has been incredible. Not one person I asked for something has said no. I've been getting emails, phone calls and hugs from people I don't even know who want to help."
