Peregrine Falcons

The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History's new Connect with Nature series runs every Saturday from January 29, 2011 to February 19, 2011. Each class is $8 for members and $10 for general admission. Please register online or at the class.

On February 12th join the Museum for Peregrine Falcons. The peregrine falcon population's decline to near extinction, and then recovery due to conservation biology efforts has been hailed as history’s best example of a wildlife management success story. Glenn will tell this story using a tame peregrine and slides that illustrate how these rare birds are bred in large aviaries, climb to their nests on high cliffs, and raise young in a lab for release into the wild.

Glenn R. Stewart the director of the UC Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group with offices at the campus’ UC Long Marine Laboratory. Stewart teaches the course, “Peregrine Falcon Recovery: A Case Study in Conservation Success” at UC Santa Cruz. Meet at the Museum at 10am. Questions? Call 831-420-1135.
