When Does School Start?

Sorry kids to remind you of your worst nightmare during a summer of bliss, but your parents may want to get a jump on shopping for clothes and supplies.

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 29 is the first day back if you go to a Santa Cruz City School, which is kind of a bummer since the three-day Labor Day weekend is Sept. 3. It throws a monkey wrench into those last week holiday plans.

At least you'll know your teachers have it worse than you. They have workshops Aug. 27 and 28.

Your next holiday is Nov. 12, Veteran's Day. Get the whole calendar here. (Make sure you go to the right under quick links because the main calendar listing is for 2011.)

Those schools include:

  • Bay View Elementary, DeLaveaga Elementary, Gault Elementary, Westlake Elementary
  • Middle Schools: Branciforte Middle School, Mission Hill Middle School
  • Comprehensive High Schools: Harbor High School, Santa Cruz High School, Soquel High School
  • PreSchools: Santa Cruz Parent Education Nursery School, Soquel Parent Education Nursery School, Westside Parent Education Nursery School
  • PreKindergarten: Gault Elementary, Westlake Elementary
  • Continuation High School: Costanoa
  • Alternative Elementary School: Monarch, K-6

Pacific Collegiate School also has it tougher. Students there start Aug. 15. That calendar is here.

Cabrillo College starts Aug. 27, despite the pleas from students and faculty who want to attend Burning Man that week. Full calendar here.

UCSC students, slugs that they are, don't start classes until Sept. 27, but the quarter starts Sept. 22Full calendar here.
