Aerial Go Pro Footage Flies High Over Santa Cruz Surfers

Bay Area local Eric Cheng captured a bird's eye view of surfers at Steamer's Lane in Santa Cruz.

Using a remote controlled drone-like quadcopter and GoPro, renowned underwater photographer and Bay Area local Eric Cheng captured a bird's eye view of surfers at Steamer's Lane in Santa Cruz last Monday. In addition to this surf spot, which rolls in below the lighthouse of the Santa Cruz Surf Museum, Cheng has also taken the same equipment and mind-bending perspective to Dog Beach in Del Mar, Arizona and the 2013 World Ice Art Championships in Alaska.

Although his time-lapse videos and other land-bound work will surely keep your attention, Cheng's specialty is definitely below sea level (his photography's Facebook page's about me reads simply, "I like fish.") A pioneer with a camera, Cheng publishes a community website for underwater photography and videography which had grown to include over 20,000 photographers around the world. Check out his site for some gnarly shark photos, scuba diving videos and coral imagery straight out of Finding Nemo.
