Best of The SkimShady Show Gives Big Screen Time to the Locals

Dana "SkimShady" Baldzikowsi is a fixture in the Santa Cruz Skate, Surf and Skim scene and famously known for his local TV program The SkimShady Show on Community Access TV Channel 27

Summer time is coming and if you ask how I know this I will merely point to the bevy of local surf films being shown at The Rio Theater.

The Rio Theater is the surfer's version of Grauman's Chinese Theater. The who's who of Santa Cruz surfing and skate culture flock to the corner of Seacliff and Soquel to check themselves out on the big screen.

Pro Surfers RatBoy, Matt Rockhold, Anthony Tashnick, Homer Henard, Omar Etcheverry, Julian Sekon, Matt Meyers and Austin Smith Ford to name a few were  in the lobby before and after the movie chatting it up with the locals that turned out to support.

Friday's showing of the Best of The SkimShady Show produced and directed by Dana "SkimShady" Baldzokowsi had a nominal $2 entry and the kids were stoked. SkimShady made his entrance after a resounding rap song dedicated to his style. Once he took the stage the crowd went nuts as the humble videographer thanked the crowd for coming to the movie and hoped they would like it.

The night started off with a quick 5-minute trailer showcasing the MidTown surf spots, which was also produced by SkimShady and  which then rolled into a raffle where sponsors Fringe, Body Glove Wetsuits, Arnette Sunglasses, Rusty Clothing and Santa Cruz Skate and Surf Shop donated everything from wetsuits to T-shirts.

The movie rolled and immediately surfers are getting barrelled, dropping into massive waves and busting huge airs. Not to be outdone, the skateboarding was equally as impressive with some hidden pools, local skateparks and numerous local skate jams.

The Best of SkimShady premier was set to a range of music from GG Allen to Kelly Osbourne and maintained a good pace while showcasing local surfers and skaters and sprinkling in visiting pros to add some flavor. Well paced and edited according to the song of choice, the Best of the SkimShady show delivered as promised.

Overall, the movie was awesome, the kids had a blast and local surfers got to see themselves on the big screen. SkimShady is a but of a cult icon with a following of loyal fans, surfers and skaters. If you get a chance you should check out The SkimShady Show which airs Tuesdays 8pm on local community TV channel 27.
