Flying Dutchman World Championships in Santa Cruz All Week

Sailboats have been coming into the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor all week from all over the world to race in an international event. Local inventor Philippe Kahn is a champion.

What is a Flying Dutchman?

A fast two-person dinghy made in the 1950s in the Netherlands, that sail in the Olympics. There are 10,000 of them and they are the sports cars of the sailing world.

Here is the Flying Dutchman schedule for the week:

  • Sun, 9/23/12 – Registration & Practice Race
  • Mon, 9/24/12 – Registration, Practice Race, Opening Ceremony
  • Tues, 9/25/12 – Competitors Meeting, 2 Races
  • Wed, 9/26/12 – 2 Races
  • Thurs, 9/27/12 – 2 Races
  • Fri, 9/28/12 – 2 Races
  • Sat, 9/29/12 – Reserve Day
  • Sun, 9/30/12 – 1 Race, Trophy Ceremony
