Get Out in Santa Cruz: Beach Music, Beach Soccer and Wings!

Beach music and beach soccer are part of the weekend as is a wing competition, a beer tasting that is also a fundraiser, and a demonstration of Japanese cultural arts; our suggestions to Get Out in Santa Cruz this weekend.

Where/When: , 400 Beach St, Santa Cruz, Friday, 6:30 p.m.

Why Go: Mickey Thomas and Starship is the kickoff for the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk's free Friday Night Bands summer series. The music will continue until Labor Day weekend! Two shows every Friday an early bird special at 6:30 p.m., and another at 8:30 p.m.  It's summer and time to listen to the music.

When/Where: Old Fashioned Campfire for the Whole Family –
Friday, June 17 from 5:30 to 8:00 PM

There will be tortilla making, a campfire, and great story telling and singing with local parents Julie and Randy Widera (who both do amazing work for the Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks).
Bring a picnic dinner and some toppings to share for tortillas.

Bring a picnic dinner, lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, and tortilla toppings (salsa, cheese,butter)
From 5:30 to 6:45 there will be tortilla making on the comal and live music to enjoy.
From 6:45 to 8:00 enjoy storytelling and songs around the fire for the whole family.


Where/When: , 400 Beach St, Santa Cruz, Saturday, Sunday, all day

Why Go: The teams are already registered and now it's up the spectators to enjoy the game.  Head out to the Santa Cruz Main Beach to watch the competition with both amateurs and professionals playing. A 13-year-old freestyler named Alli will perform on stage Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Pricing: Free, no charge to watch. Organizers encourage people to carpool to the beach.

Where/When: 103 Emmett St,. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Why Go:  A one-day celebration and presentation of many of the traditional cultural gifts received from Japan--many of which are becoming rare and hard to find in Japan itself.  The main stage will be located in the Mission Plaza Park with martial arts demonstrations at the Aikido of Santa Cruz Dojo at 306 Mission St., and the Zen Center at 113 School St.

Where/When:  , 911 Soquel Ave., Saturday, 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Why Go: This is Whole Foods Market first "Dad's Beer Fest." It will include manly finger foods and a Whole Foods tasting glass. All Proceed benefit Grind Out Hunger.

Pricing: $10 tasting fee

Where/When: , 402 Ingalls St., Saturday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Why Go:It's Wing Ding Time.  Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing is hosting the fourth  tannual Wing Ding competition with chefs from all over who will be competing for the title of BEST WING IN SANTA CRUZ!  There will be music, entertainment and tasty treats from food vendors.  Bring your kids, dogs, chairs and blankets for a great time and a chance to eat all the wings you can handle.
