Get Out in Santa Cruz: Eric Burdon and the Animals at the Boardwalk

Eric Burdon and the Animals at the Boardwalk, vintage motorcycles, skate jam, and the REAL surf city are some great stops for the first weekend of summer.

Where/When: , 400 Beach St., Friday, 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.

Why Go: The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk free Friday concert is a winner this time around. Eric Burdon and the Animals perform.  You won't want to miss this chance to see the people who brought you "The House of the Rising Sun" in concert.

Why Go: Find out more about The Real Surf City in this presentation by Willing Suspension Armchair Theater, directed by Susan Forrest. This play is a tribute to the rich and diverse surfing culture in our area, when they take a look at “Santa Cruz, the REAL Surf City.” Local surfers Carl Churchfield, Patti Sirens, Rocky Snyder, David Thorn, and Steve “Spike” Wong will read excerpts from prose and poetry about surfing in Santa Cruz by Thomas Hickenbottom, Daniel Duane, David Thorn, and Devin Murphy, plus a sneak preview from Drew Kampion’s biography of Jack O’Neill, It’s Always Sunny on the Inside.

Why Go: The Healing Center is reopening and they would like you to be part of the party. Proceeds to go Dining For Women, a national organization that helps women in developing countries worldwide.

Why Go: It's time for a family musical jam. The fourth Friday of the month is a regular musical fest in Santa Cruz with singing, dancing, instrument playing, and more. You and your kids can bring your favorite CDs to share, an instrument to play or a song to sing because it's musical fun for the everyone.

Pricing: Sliding scale of $10 to $25 per family.

Where/When: , 911 Soquel Ave., Saturday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: A skate party in the parking lot of Whole Foods Market! Whole Foods together with Grind Out Hunger are working together on this fund-raising Skate Jam.  Bring food or money in exchange for an afternoon of skating or skateboarding.

Pricing: $5 or  5 pounds of food to skate

Where/When: 1855 41st Ave # G-11, (In the Mall Parking Lot) Capitola, Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: It's time for Bikes on the Bay — the show that highlights vintage motorcycles and scooters. See what was being used before 1988, not just American, but European and Japanese too. There will also be a swap meet where you may be able to find rare parts. Ssed motorcycles and scooters will also be for sale.
