Two Locals Head To Mississippi to Help With Tornado Relief

The American Red Cross Santa Cruz County Chapter is deploying two more local volunteers to provide support and comfort to those affected by the tornado and Spring storms. 

Kate McCarthy-Lewis of Santa Cruz and Bonnie Ricci of Capitola will deploy this morning -- Monday -- to Mississippi to help assess the needs of affected individuals and families, bringing to a total of four volunteers from  Santa Cruz County deployed to provide disaster relief. 

Five days after devastating tornadoes and storms swept through Mississippi, the Red Cross is continues to help affected families and individuals.

Teams of mental health volunteers and nurses are canvasing affected areas to work with residents and help them to cope with these traumatic events.

 Emergency Aid Stations are open in Tupelo, Louisville and Pearl to provide residents with vital information, health and mental health services and supplies such as tarps, shovels, and gloves.

Teams of Red Cross workers are also traveling through affected areas to deliver clean up supplies to families combing through the debris for the remnants of their dreams and memories.
