Seth Curry Signs With Memphis Grizzlies

Curry is ninth call-up from D-League this season

Santa Cruz Warriors point guard Seth Curry officially signed with the Memphis Grizzlies today, in what was one of the worst-kept secrets after his father, NBA veteran Dell Curry spilled the beans this past weekend about his son's future.

Curry, the ninth call-up this season from the D-League, averaged 21.8 points and 7.8 assists in 12 contests.  He joins a Memphis squad fraught with injuries, most notably Quincy Pondexter who is likely out for the season with a stress fracture.

A Golden State Warriors training camp invitee, Curry went undrafted out of Duke and was assigned to the Santa Cruz team via the 'affiliate rule' (an NBA team can send up to three players cut from training camp to the D-League where they own their D-League rights.) after being cut from training camp.

Curry made his mark immediately in Santa Cruz, setting franchise records for points (36) and assists (13) in a single game.  For Bay Area fans anticipating a call-up to Golden State, it more than likely wasn't in the cards.

With his elder brother, Steph, emerging as a true superstar in the NBA, the expectations for the younger Curry would be too high for Warriors fans looking for the brothers to light-up the court every night in Oakland.  Seth, isn't quite there yet, and a small market team like Memphis suits his personality perfectly.

A quiet, humble individual, Seth will be able to spread his wings with a team who ranks second-to-last in the NBA in three-pointers made (4.9).  Curry himself scored 25 three-pointers while with Santa Cruz.

A team that is currently three games under .500, Curry will help bolster one of the slowest offenses in the NBA, providing energy and ball distribution while playing alongside Mike Conley.

Congratulations are in order for Seth, who received an early Christmas present this year.  From here in Santa Cruz, (as oddly as this may sound), I hope to never see you again.
