Warriors Fall to Stampede in OT

Warriors drop to second place in West Division.

The Santa Cruz Warriors fell to West Division rival Idaho Stampede 119-118 in overtime Saturday.

 All five Santa Cruz starters scored in double figures. The Warriors were led by Seth Curry, who scored 23 points. Golden State Warriors assignment player Ognjen Kuzmic logged a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, while Daniel Nwaelele scored 16 points. Hilton Armstrong recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

 Idaho’s Dee Bost led all scorers with 30 points. EJ Singler scored 12 fourth quarter points to finish with 23, while Pierre Jackson scored 15 and dished out a game-high nine assists. Dallas Lauderdale had the lone Stampede double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Santa Cruz started the game on a 6-0 run and extended its advantage to as much as 17 in the second quarter. The Warriors led by 13 early in the fourth and held their lead until Dee Bost hit a three-pointer with 1:14 left in the game to put Idaho ahead for the first time. Daniel Nwaelele connected on a three with 23.0 seconds left to force overtime, which was tied at 115 with 1:13 left. Pierre Jackson hit a jump shot with 23.4 seconds left to give Idaho the 117-115 overtime lead, but Dominic McGuire answered with a three to put Santa Cruz up by one with 18.5 seconds left. With 4.0 seconds remaining, Dee Bost stole the in-bounds pass and Reggie Hearn hit a layup as time expired to give the Stampede the win.

Santa Cruz held the edge on field goal percentage (47.4%-44.0%), rebounds (60-46), points in the paint (52-38) and second chance points (19-17). Idaho had more assists (24-21), steals (8-3) and committed fewer turnovers (9-15).

 The Santa Cruz Warriors return to Kaiser Permanente Arena for Grind Out Hunger Night Presented by Wells Fargo against the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Tuesday. The team will wear custom black jerseys with the Grind Out Hunger logo, and the jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit the Santa Cruz-based nonprofit in its mission to combat childhood hunger.
