Bridal Expo 2014, a Funky Benefit, and Winterpalooza in Santa Cruz….



What:  Donation Drive for the Kids and Canines

When:  10a.m. – 4p.m. also (Sat. & Sun)

Where:  Peace United Church at 900 High Street

Why Go:  Help support Unchained, Inc. with your donation of e-waste, clothing, and other items to raise funds for animal support therapy with the help of troubled youth in our community who also benefit as they may feel inspired to improve their own lives by helping canines in need.

Cost:   Free.  Please donate any items in fair condition.



What:  Cookbook Club:  The Ayurvedic Vegan Kitchen

When:  6p.m. – 8:30p.m.

Where:  New Leaf Community Market at 1101 Fair Avenue

Why Go:  Cookbook author and Chef Talya Lutzkerf , creates an amazing vegan dish from her book and then enjoys the meal with the class.  Everyone goes home with a copy of ‘The Ayurvedic Vegan Kitchen.’

What:  Winterpalooza:  A Family Festival

When:  12p.m. – 3p.m.

Where:  Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History ‘MAH’

Why Go:  A Winter Wonderland exists at the ‘Mah,’ in the midst of this summer like weather, as it’s transformed into everything snow, craft fun, games, and hot cocoa.

Cost:  $5/general, $3/members



What:  Water Concert

When:  8p.m., doors open at 7:30p.m.

Where:  The Catalyst Atrium

Why Go:  Otto’s Monkey, Blue Eyed Lucy, Eliquate, and Louder Space come together to help raise awareness for how we use fresh water and the connection with the health of our oceans nd beaches!

Cost:  $8/advance, $12/door



What:  Benefit for Walnut Avenue Women’s Center

When:  7p.m. – 1a.m.

Where:  The 418 Project at 418 Front Street

Why Go:  This funk break beat benefit brings much needed awareness and funds to the Walnut Ave Women’s Center.  Dinner by India Joze and special guests the Mystic Trabadours provides the musical entertainment.  Don’t miss this funky event!

Cost:  $15/advance, $20/door



What:  Santa Cruz County Symphony Concert ‘Immortal Love”

When:  8p.m.  (2p.m. Sunday at the Henry J. Mello Center in Watsonville)

Where:  Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium

Why Go:  Romeo and Juliet and Tristan and Isolde, are among  some of the world’s greatest love stories that will be brought to life in this musical concert performance featuring Baritone Yunpeng Wang from the Metropolitan Opera and Mahler, Wagner, and Prokofiev.

Cost:  $22 - $67



What:  Fruit Trees 101:  Basic Fruit Tree Care

When:  10a.m. – 1p.m.

Where:  UCSC Farm at UC Santa Cruz

Why Go:  Orin Martin and Sky DeMuro of UCSC's Alan Chadwick Garden teach the basics of winter pruning, fruit tree planting, pest control, and irrigation.

Cost:  $30-$40 general, $20-$30 Friends of the Farm and Garden, $5 UCSC students.

What:  Cocoanut Grove Bridal Expo 2014

Where:  The Cocoanut Grove

Why Go:  Love is in the air at the Bridal Expo Fashion Show.  Brides will have all the resources they need in one place to plan their dream wedding, including fun door prizes, and a grand prize drawing!

What:  Parent-Child Workshop with Kickpads

When:  10a.m. – 1:30p.m.

Where:  Aptos location

Why Go:  Families are taught self defense skills for handling emergencies and techniques for resolving common emotional problems.
