Some refer to the Paleo Diet as "the caveman diet."
According to Rebecca Rovay-Hazelton, Licensed Nutritionist & Author of Choosing Health, "Paleo diets are nothing new, they are based on eating how our hunter-gatherer ancestors ate during 99.6% of our evolutionary history (roughly 2.6 million years ago until about 10,000 years ago when the agricultural revolution began).
She outline the Pros and Cons of this stye of eating:
PROs:
- Cuts out the processed junk
- Emphasis on blood sugar balance
- Emphasis on nutrient-dense foods
CONS:
- Not individualized (customizing one’s diet is essential!)
- Increasing animal proteins could increase toxic burden IF meats are not high quality (same for dirty dozen produce)
- Takes time and energy to maintain…but so does any eating style
Rebecca will be giving two classes at New Leaf on the Paleo Diet: Paleo On the Go (September 10th 6:00pm-7:30pm) and Paleo Desserts (October 8th 6:00pm-7:30pm.) For more information about Paleo Diet, classes and some recipes by Rebecca, visit:
