Goodwill Industries of Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Luis Obispo

Goodwill sells secondhand and new goods—primarily clothing, housewares, appliances and furniture—at very low prices. Goodwill operates 14 stores and many <a href="http://www.scgoodwill.org/wheretodonatesc.html">donation centers </a>in the area, including stores in Scotts Valley, Capitola, Watsonville and Santa Cruz. Profits are channeled into job training and education for people facing obstacles to employment. There are some 165 independent Goodwill stores nationwide. Together, they provided employment and training programs to 1.9 million people in 2009, with 84 percent of revenue spent directly on programs.
