I recognized picture was bobcat because of previous article on how to tell the diff between mountainRead More lion and bobcat. But article mentioned cougar too. ?? Somehow these tips don't quite make me secure about knowing what to do. But it did have common sense advice. Thank you.
Wendy Wichelman-Debbas May 18, 2013 at 09:46 am
Your story would be better if you included a photo of a mountain lion instead of a bobcat!
Jessica Friedman May 17, 2013 at 11:49 pm
Just an FYI, the picture used is of a bobcat, not a mountain lion.

I have to add a Jerry Garcia story of my own: I once got to tour with the Dead in 94 for a storyRead More about Garcia's return after what they said then was a diabetes problem. So, we were in a van with mirrored windows driving from the Arizona Biltmore (they stayed in nice places) to Blockbuster Ampitheater through a throng of people lined up to get in. The windows were open at the bottom, but no one could see in, and as we drive through the crowd, this Deadhead says to a friend "You know who's in that van?" I thought...oh no, they are going to riot and break open the van. I'm looking at Garcia, Lesh, Hart...waiting for trouble. And the guy continues: "Those are the narcs. They sneak them in early to every concert." Classic moment.

Santa Cruz City Hall is a really lovely example of the Monterey Colonial Style -- a single story URead More shaped building with interior arcades on all three sides, surrounding a fountain courtyard. It was built in 1937, designed by Monterey architect C.J. Ryland. Ryland also designed the Monterey City Hall (1936) which incorporates many of the same stylistic features. Ryland began his architectural career in Fresno in 1919, designing commercial and civic buildings throughout California. He moved to Monterey in 1932 and continued his work there. Santa Cruz City Hall is designated as a historic landmark by the Museum of Art and History, and is discussed in more detail in John Chase's Sidewalk Companion to Santa Cruz Architecture.

This pic brings back memories of Sta Cruz when I lived there in the late 60's. Isn't this the steetRead More where the Catalist is? Sad to hear about all the street people, now, but many of us have fallen on hard times. Unfortunately, with California's economy..might well again. While actions of some homeless or struggling individuals may be socially unacceptable, they may beRead More not have any other options or be in control of those actions. Most homeless people do not choose to be so. A wide variety of mental problems plagues these individuals. This attitude of "not in my back yard" and purely trying to displace people is a weak goal for anybody to spend energy on. These people need help. If we want problems with the homeless to decrease, we need to help them. We already tried pushing them into the streets and ignoring them and that didn't work.
