I have to add a Jerry Garcia story of my own: I once got to tour with the Dead in 94 for a story…Read More about Garcia's return after what they said then was a diabetes problem. So, we were in a van with mirrored windows driving from the Arizona Biltmore (they stayed in nice places) to Blockbuster Ampitheater through a throng of people lined up to get in.
The windows were open at the bottom, but no one could see in, and as we drive through the crowd, this Deadhead says to a friend "You know who's in that van?"
I thought...oh no, they are going to riot and break open the van.
I'm looking at Garcia, Lesh, Hart...waiting for trouble.
And the guy continues: "Those are the narcs. They sneak them in early to every concert."
Classic moment.
