Doug was a great colleague and I am deeply saddened by his passing. We met occasionally typically…Read More at conferences and we would sometimes have a chance to enjoy dinner and conversation about issues in sex education research, particularly regarding adolescents. He was extremely knowledgeable and thoughtful and good-natured. He was a decent person; so it was always a pleasure to spend time with him. I will miss him dearly, as will many others.

Seems that the cocktail onion in his gibson got the best of him and it was only Jerry's quick and expert application of the Heimlich Maneuver (causing the onion to pop out very unceremoniously) that Leigh was able to continue on for several more decades. Very sad that we will never be able to share cocktails again with a most delightful friend.

I knew Cecile as "Suzie" when we taught school together in San Jose. We were good friends…Read More and colleagues. We worked hard to make the first "Earth Day" a reality for our students. As a result of this santa cruz has a huge homeless population along with a equally huge and even larger alcohol and drug addict and mentally unstable population. Denial has been a river called the san lorenzo levee. For as long as memory serves, and memories are short in santa cruz, the river and forests up the river have been a madhouse of heroin, meth and alcohol zombie territory. Along comes occupy wall st and the mentally unstable citizens that live in this town spouting tv inspired madness, college students learning community organizing skills, and every political action committee. But whos the real occupiers that have been around for a lot longer than all of them occupying this area? The homeless and drug addicts alcohol fueled wackos. So whats all this really about wall st, or santa cruzs social dysfunction?
