The information posted about that night is inaccurate, and I'm not sure if its deliberate or not.Read More Anybody can look up a 1982 calendar online and see September 4th 1982 was a Saturday night. It was Labor Day weekend just before the school year started. Now, I can't say for sure whether there was a Golfland in 1982, but where Golfland is today at Wolfe and ECR (El Camino Real) did not exist. It was the Woolworth Garden Center at that time. The report I read in the paper stated a driver delivering to Woolworth Garden Center found her. Not a year goes by that I don't think about Karen, especially in September. I remember the night I heard the news. I had just gotten home from camping at Pinnacles with my mom, step-dad, sister, and her friend who lived next door to us. When we got home, my next door neighbor called me and asked what Karen's last name was. When I told her Karen's name, she told me she had been murdered. She then brought over the newspaper for me to read the story. Karen and I dated that previous school year. Her murder was part of my desire to become a police officer. While I realize the colder the trail goes, the harder it is to find witnesses and evidence...I will never lose hope that her killer(s) will be brought to justice. And if I'm able to, I will be in that courtroom to see the face of the animal(s) that took such a wonderful life away from her family and friends. She will always have a place in my heart.

Johnny: Getting these parasites out & keeping them out of downtown isn't enough. ----- GettingRead More them out & keeping them out of our greenbelt is at least as important. That is their "base of operations" from which they operate with near impunity. ----- I've been seeing it 1st hand for decades, and it's nothing less than a crime against nature.

Why didnt they arrest the "middle-man" when they had him? Why isnt he named but they knowRead More his age? Ive seen Santa Cruz' most wanted, be guilty of lesser crimes and have their name and pic blasted all over town..... Why is this man being "sought" yet they dont seem to want to really want him?

^^ wow. Your comment is offensive.
Pat Kittle April 5, 2014 at 01:35 pm
Dianna Bolin: Some Americans actually think immigrants (legal & illegal) commit a lot of crime.Read More We can disprove this hateful nasty vicious utterly-baseless stereotype by revealing the immigration status of all criminals, both alleged & convicted. Never fear the truth!

Note to the reporter: this was not a "sexual act." This is an act of violence. SemanticsRead More perhaps but it is important in the case of non-consentual acts to call them what they are.

I pity the man. I hope the system is intervening and providing this child some seriousRead More intervention. What about the girlfriend for remaining with this guy. She's probably a victim of DV as well. It's a sad sad state of affairs for all parties involved. The grandmother did a bang up job raising her daughter who ended up with such a loser. I hope the police made a cross report to CPS.
Laura R March 30, 2014 at 04:36 pm
Mike GH T. made a very good recommendation: what can we do to make sure that the police make aRead More cross report to Child Protective Services?
