My life has been intertwined with wine for decades, although my epiphany moment came in France when I first really tasted the concept of terroir. Whether it's white Rhones in Paso, Petit Verdot in Livermore, or Pinot in the Santa Cruz Mountains, that sense of partnership between a place and a grape is indelible.

Having lived in the Santa Cruz Mountains for more than three decades, I most enjoy writing about wines with character and the crusty mountain characters who make them. I enjoy holding classes in wine evaluation and appreciation, and seek to promote the notion of wine as food in conjunction with a healthy and wholesome locovore diet and lifestyle. Almost all my friends are in the food and wine biz or are foodies themselves.

When I'm not chasing rabbits, chipmunks and squirrels out of my garden, I write extensively for many industry and consumer publications, including Wine Business Monthly, Vineyard and Winery Management and Wine Country This Week. I also have a weekly wine column in several newspapers and write regularly for The Livermore Independent, and I occasionally remember to blog at myvinespace.com.
