Leah Salomoni recently graduated summa cum laude from the University of Connecticut with B.A. degrees in journalism and sociology. She has worked in media for the past few years at UCTV and News 12 television stations.
When not working, writing or filming, Leah enjoys running and being involved in advocacy for animal rights.
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable.
This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.
Though I am not registered with a specific party, I guess I would consider myself a Democrat...if you had to label it. When I head to the polls, I keep an open mind and vote for the people I think make the most sense, regardless of affiliation.
I was raised Catholic. Baptism, communion, confirmation, etc. However, it has been years since I've stepped foot in a church for reason other than a wedding or funeral. I do not consider myself to be a religious person, although I do like to believe I can be reborn as something cool if I do well in this life. (Not sure what religion that fits into.)
Local Hot-Button Issues
I think Shelton's public schools are always an important issue. Whether focusing on the budget or cutting specific programs or daily conduct, the schools are a central issue because this community is very family-oriented.
