Jackson Browne Honored by Save Our Shores

The marine conservation organization will present Browne with its 'Ocean Hero Award' prior to the singer/songwriter's concert tonight.

Jackson Browne hits the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium stage Wednesday at 8 p.m., but before that, Save Our Shores (SOS) will honor Browne’s social and environmental activism. At 4:30 p.m. during the sound check for the concert, representatives from SOS will present Browne with the organization’s “Ocean Hero Award” for “his continuous anti-plastic activism,” according to the SOS website.

Browne has been a long-time activist for social and environmental issues, speaking out in public, in his songs and on his website.

Indeed, he was one of the first members of the Plastic Pollution Coalition and initiated the REFUSE Disposable Plastics Campaign to raise awareness of the environmental harms of plastic.

And in 2002, he was the fourth person to receive the John Steinbeck Award, which is presented to artists whose work embodies the environmental and social values that were so important to Steinbeck.
