Hi, Do You Know Me? I'm a Suspected Car Burglar in Santa Cruz

Cops think I may be responsible for crimes in the upper west area on March 15 to 16.

The Santa Cruz Police Department has released home-surveillance video from Saturday night, March 15, and early Sunday morning, March 16, of a man who, police say, appears to be making his way through the Sheldon Avenue neighborhood checking car doors around the upper west area of town.

A "couple of burglaries" were subsequently reported in that region, police said, with items reportedly missing from cars left unlocked.

The department is hoping someone recognizes this suspect, or maybe has other video of him allegedly "going through the neighborhood."

If anyone has information, they are encouraged to contact the Investigation Unit at (831) 420-5820, or submit an anonymous tip via the Smartphone app for iPhone and Droid, or through the web site at www.santacruzpolice.com.

And police remind residents:

  • Do not leave valuables unsecured or in plain view in cars;
  • If you see someone suspicious, call police;
  • Or if you have video of this individual, contact SCPD investigators.
"Let’s get this guy identified, and let’s not make it easy for these crooks to manufacture victims in Santa Cruz," the department said.
