Stabbing Reported in 7-Eleven Parking Lot at Mission & Swift in Santa Cruz
Two men from Campbell and San Bruno were arrested as they were reportedly making their getaway, police say.
A Campbell man, 19, and a San Bruno male, 22, were arrested Saturday night in Santa Cruz after a reported stabbing in a 7-Eleven parking lot at Mission and Swift streets, according to police.
The Santa Cruz Police Department was called to a reported fistfight and stabbing in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven at 10:50 p.m.
A 42-year-old man told police he was confronted by "a younger group," where words were exchanged that led to the stabbing, police said.
The victim was treated for non-life-threatening wounds to his face and leg, and officers broadcasted a description of the suspects' vehicle -- a silver Toyota Camry.
The auto was spotted traveling southbound on the Highway 1 bypass, and stopped and arrested were 19-year-old Gabriel Vegas of Campbell, and Christopher Amato, 22, of San Bruno, police said.
Although Vegas denied involvement in the incident, police claim video footage from a nearby business confirmed he was the stabber.
The knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered from inside the suspects’ car, along with a Glock .45 caliber handgun registered to Amato and amphetamines, police said.
